Starting point: by the Vecht in Ommen

From the Waterfront in Ommen you join the cycle node network. For the first few kilometres you follow the river downstream, with grass dykes on one side and water meadows on the other.

Along the way: Vilsteren and the Vilsteren mill

You ride into the Vilsteren estate, a sweeping landholding of woods, fields and the small village at its heart. At the Vilsteren mill you can step off the bike for a moment; the shift from forest to open river country makes this one of the loveliest stretches of the valley.

Highlight: where the Regge joins the Vecht

Further on, towards Dalfsen, you cross the spot where the Regge merges into the Vecht. Connoisseurs call this the finest part of the Vechtdal: slow rivers, broad bends and wide views across the water.

Good to know

  • The route follows the cycle node network; you can shorten or extend it yourself.
  • Mostly paved, with the odd semi-paved estate path.
  • There are cafe terraces in Vilsteren and Dalfsen for a break.

From Hotel de Zon

Hotel de Zon sits right on the Vecht, so you roll straight from the terrace onto the path. After the ride you put the bike away and settle by the very river you cycled along. A day with the water at your side throughout.
